On Monday, October 27, 2014, more than 700 people including publishing industry leaders will join members of the Goddard Riverside community for its annual gala, which will be held at the Waldorf Astoria. The record-breaking crowd will gather to honor Leonard Riggio, Founder and Chairman of Barnes & Noble, Inc., and a generous supporter of Goddard Riverside. Mr. Riggio is an esteemed industry leader and businessman who is passionate about the arts, literacy, and education. In addition, his commitment to promoting equality and diversity has earned him numerous awards.
“I am pleased to help raise money in order for Goddard Riverside to continue the important work they do on behalf of New Yorker’s in need,” said Mr. Riggio.
The Annual Gala kicks off Goddard Riverside’s annual Book Fair season, which began more than 25 years ago as a book sale to support its homeless outreach program. The season includes the New York Book Fair, a two-day book sale event open to the community, and also its Meet-the-Author events – a series of dinners hosted in private homes that offer sit-down discussions with well-known authors across genres.
Since their inception, the Annual Gala and the New York Book Fair have become signature charitable projects of the publishing industry, and have raised more than $11.5 million to support Goddard’s many outreach, direct service and support programs.
