White curtains flutter in the large sunny window of a room with metal beds and a wooden floor.

The Baxter, our Safe Haven in Elmhurst, Queens, opened in January 2021 at reduced capacity due to COVID-19. Eventually, it will house some 75 people transitioning from living on the streets to permanent housing.

The Baxter provides each resident with a bed, personal space, and locker that are available to them 24 hours a day.

On-site services include:

  • nutritious meals
  • psychiatric and medical services
  • case management
  • help reconnecting with community and family
  • help securing permanent housing
