Staff members from our president to our uptown homeless outreach team have been recognized recently for their impact on the community.

President Roderick L. Jones and Resource Center director Wayne Tyre were honored by City and State Magazine for the second year in a row.

Jones was named to the Nonprofit Trailblazers list for the second time. The magazine writes that he has “built a career rooted in justice and possibility.” It also notes his appointment to the Commission to Strengthen Local Democracy, a panel created by the New York City Council to review and recommend improvements to the city charter.

Tyre was named to the 50 Over 50 Alumni list, a group chosen from the last ten years of 50 Over 50 honorees. The profile delves into Tyre’s philosophy of social work. “I look at it like the families are driving the car and we’re merely passengers,” Tyre says. “As the social workers, our job is to help them to accomplish their desires, their goals.”

It also notes some of Tyre’s recent accomplishments: overseeing the opening of a new Resource Center in the Manhattanville NYCHA development, and continuing to expand our Three Gen program, which works to support whole families as they lift themselves from poverty.

Director Keri Goldwyn and the Uptown Goddard homeless outreach team were honored for “incredible work with the unhoused” by the West Side Democrats at their Spring Gala

#Degrees NYC Director LaKisha Williams received the Linda Carter-Cooper Community Hero Award for “unwavering dedication, leadership and commitment to empowering our community.” The award was announced at the recent street naming for UWS tenant advocate and community volunteer Linda Carter-Cooper. City Council Member Gale Brewer was also honored.
