Their Story Continues…
Teo* just arrived in New York from Venezuela, where he did not receive adequate schooling. Goddard’s Star Learning Center assigned him a bilingual tutor whose parents were from Venezuela. Their shared experiences made learning easier. Now Teo is using more English, and his report cards show significant improvement.
Debby* had lived in her public housing apartment for 60 years, but recently began being harassed by a neighbor. Reports to the building manager only made things worse. A NORC social worker from Goddard helped her through bureaucratic hurdles and eventually got approval for an emergency transfer. Debby got a new apartment in a different building and is no longer afraid in her own home.
Rashid* was going to high school during the day and working at night. His exhaustion made school difficult and put him in danger of failing. Goddard’s Learning to Work staff helped him apply to new jobs and gave him a professional outfit for interviews. Rashid got a new job with no overnight hours and soon was back on track for school. He graduated in July.
Amalia* experienced trauma as a young teen and developed alcoholism as she got older. She had been homeless since 2019. At the end of 2022, Goddard’s Uptown homeless outreach team was able to place her into housing and get her mental health treatment. Amalia is now in permanent housing, sober, and in contact with her mother.
Show your support and help those like Teo, Debby, Rashid, and Amalia with a donation to Goddard Riverside today!
