Goddard Riverside Community Center’s highly-regarded Star Learning Center is seeking volunteer tutors for the 2015-16 school year.
"We have more kids than ever before who want tutoring, but we need volunteers to work with them," said Director Deena Hellman.
The program serves low-income students from across the city. Each tutor works one-on-one with a single student. "Our volunteers really get to know the students. They feel invested in that child’s success and they get so much satisfaction from watching these students learn, grow and succeed," said Hellman.
Each tutor must commit to a two-hour block of time once a week at the Center, which is located at 26 West 84th
St. in Manhattan. Tutoring takes place Monday through Friday after school, with evening hours until 7 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays and until 6 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
High school students are welcome to volunteer, but must be in at least the 10th
