Bash Celebrates Older Adults and a Housing Leader

A sellout crowd packed the Bryant Park Grill on October 7 to celebrate our Older Adult programs and honor the mayor’s right-hand woman on housing.

“A society is judged on how they treat their children and older adults. So I really have just one question: what do you believe should happen for older adults?” said Goddard Riverside President Rod Jones. “What kind of society do we want for people who have worked their entire life?”

A short video described our Older Adult programs and featured members talking about the impact on their lives. “This is where I learned a happy retirement has to be filled with things that you must do,” said Jenny, a member who relies on our Stanley M. Isaacs Older Adult Center to keep her connected to people and activities.

Rosalind Ricketts and Caroline Trim, members and organizers of the jewelry-making class at our 88th Street Older Adult Center, joined emcee PIX11 news host Monica Morales onstage. The class also auctioned off some necklaces to benefit the Older Adult programs.

Leila Bozorg, deputy mayor for housing and planning, was honored for her leadership in streamlining bureaucracy and accelerating development to address the city’s housing crisis.

The Bash is also where we unveil the winners of our annual social justice book prizes for children and adults. The Price of Mercy, a firsthand account of the shortcomings of our criminal justice system, and Talking Books, a picture book about the inventor of the audiobook, claimed this year’s honors.

Thank you to our sponsors and everyone who came to the Bash! See more photos here.
