Water Lillies (Brooklyn Botanic Gardens)

Water Lillies (Brooklyn Botanic Gardens), 2021

Joan Menschenfreund

I was born and raised in New York and have lived on the Upper West Side for over 50 years. The diversity, and beauty of the parks are often a part of my paintings. I explore how color and light during night and day and the different seasons affect my feelings, which I try to translate into my work. I love landscapes, including the animals that surround me, and personal, familiar spaces that I know very well. During these last years of Covid, I have stayed close to home and become even more familiar with these scenes. I have discovered so much and I hope my paintings show my newfound respect for the “ordinary”…which is never really ordinary. Contact: joanmensch3@aol.com to see more.
