Picture book author Margaret McNamara and young adult writer Suzanne Nelson will sign their works and chat with book lovers during Goddard Riverside Community Center’s annual Book Fair celebrations.
Nelson has published nine young adult books, including the brand-new Serendipity’s Footsteps, which weaves together the lives of three major characters and one pair of shoes. The shoes start out in 1938 Berlin on the eve of Kristallnacht and travel to Ohio, Connecticut, and Texas, ending up in contemporary New York City. Reviewers have said: “This uplifting story depicts the best and worst in humanity and the true strength of the human spirit” and “Part realistic fiction, part fairy tale, and part historical fiction, this novel is all heart.”
Nelson will sign at the Book Bash on Friday night.
Margaret McNamara is the author of How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin?, The Apple Orchard Riddle, and this year’s A Poem in Your Pocket. Together they form the popular Mr. Tiffin’s Classroom series. A Poem in Your Pocket focuses on one child’s efforts to write a “perfect” poem for a class event. The New York Times called it “A nimble introduction to poetry as well as a sensitive look at the perils of perfectionism.”
McNamara will appear at the Book Fair from noon until 1 PM on Saturday. Both events are at Goddard Riverside’s headquarters at 593 Columbus Ave.
The Book Bash and Book Fair are emblematic of the publishing industry’s long and generous support of Goddard Riverside. For three decades, thousands of brand-new books donated by publishers have been sold at the annual Book Fair for 50% off, with proceeds going to support our programs.
