Goddard Riverside’s Home Delivered Meals program has ceased operations as of July 1, 2020. Another agency has taken over the contract, and clients should not experience any interruption in service. We thank all our Home Delivered Meals staffers for their excellent work over the years.
Please note that we cannot accept direct referrals for Home Delivered Meals; contact Project Pilot, Selfhelp Community Services, at 212-787-8106 to determine eligibility.
The Home Delivered Meals program serves more than 500 hot meals to homebound older adults on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Our service area spans West 59th to 110th Streets, from Riverside Drive to Central Park West. The meals are delivered Monday through Friday.
Our meals are prepared fresh every day and represent a third of the recommended daily nutritional intake for an adult. The menu is approved by a Department for the Aging nutritionist, so the meals are fresh, nutritious and attractive in presentation. Twice a year clients complete a food satisfaction survey, which allows us to take their preferences into consideration. This is a key step toward ensuring that the food is enjoyed and eaten.
The Home Delivered Meals service helps older adults remain in their homes for as long as possible. Studies show that homebound seniors who get meals delivered are better nourished and experience less loneliness than their counterparts.
As part of our ongoing commitment to the meal recipients we serve, we visited with 500 men and women in their homes over a one-year period to assess their food security and need for additional services. The resulting report, Nourish First, produced in partnership with the Center for Long Term Care Research and Policy at New York Medical College, confirmed that our meal recipients were experiencing a host of issues that were not being addressed through food alone. As a result, Goddard Riverside has added a licensed social worker to provide case management services.
