The Other Place Clubhouse (TOP) is a warm and caring community, where members and staff work collaboratively to operate and manage the clubhouse. TOP provides integrated services to adults age 18 and older with histories of mental illness. The program accepts individuals with histories of homelessness and substance use. TOP Clubhouse assists its members in understanding their mental illness, coping with barriers and developing the skills needed to live independently, such as obtaining employment (transitional, supported or independent), securing suitable housing, returning to school and building meaningful relationships and social networks.

TOP Clubhouse provides psychosocial rehabilitation services using the structure of a work-ordered day in which members and staff work side by side. With the support of staff, members plan and execute clerical, kitchen, wellness and maintenance tasks. In addition to participating in a work-ordered day, members engage in a vibrant social and recreational program in the evenings and on weekends.

The Clubhouse offers evidence-based practices to help members cope with barriers, such as the following:

  • Wellness Recovery Action Plan
  • health and wellness programs
  • smoking cessation
  • integrated services for co-occurring disorders

Activities include

  • open-mic events
  • literary magazine
  • hygiene and clothing guidance
  • résumé writing and mock interviews
  • literacy
  • basic computer technology
  • shopping and meal preparation
  • budgeting

Our Transitional Employment program provides practical experience and prevocational support, building confidence and job experiences.

TOP is accredited by Clubhouse International, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating sustainable solutions for mental illness.Clubhouse International evaluates the more than 300 Clubhouses worldwide for fidelity to international standards.
