TOP Opportunities

TOP Opportunities (TOPOP) is Goddard Riverside’s vocational rehabilitation, training and job placement program for mentally ill homeless and formerly homeless adults who seek to rebuild their lives through work.

TOPOP participants develop skills that will help them succeed in a variety of work settings. The program helps more than 75 adults each year obtain and maintain competitive wage employment in the community.

TOPOP staff works with each individual to assess his or her specific vocational skills and interest and identifies potential employers. Recent jobs developed by TOPOP staff include front desk clerks in residential buildings, mailroom and messenger positions at a midtown law firm, street sanitation crew for a local business improvement district, and reception and office assistants at various Goddard Riverside sites.

Green Keepers, operated by TOPOP, is a social enterprise business that provides on-the-job training in horticulture and sanitation while providing beautification services to local associations, developers, and private individuals. Once participants begin working, TOPOP offers them on-going support and on-site job coaching as necessary.

TOPOP also offers maintenance, messenger and food service internships at several of our programs as well as delivery services and bulk-mailing projects.

Some 80% of participants maintain employment for over one year. There is an ongoing need to develop new job opportunities for our advanced TOPOP members.
