Safe Haven

Goddard Riverside’s Safe Haven and Housing Options programs prepare homeless individuals with mental illness for permanent housing and then arrange appropriate placements. Both programs are designed to meet the complex needs of this population, many of whom also struggle with addictions, developmental disabilities, and chronic medical conditions.

Safe Haven is a transitional housing program that provides private living accommodations, meals and a range of on-site and referral services. Services include assistance with daily living skills, psychiatric and medical care, medication management, entitlement and budget counseling, substance abuse counseling, training in independent living skills, and recreational activities. Safe Haven includes 20 single SRO units, a common lounge, kitchen, program space, and offices for staff. Residents may attend our psychosocial program at The Other Place (TOP) or training for competitive employment at the TOP Opportunities job program.

The Housing Options program works with Safe Haven residents and other clients served by the Manhattan Outreach Consortium. It draws on its relationships with dozens of supportive housing providers. Staff writes the applications, accompanies clients on housing interviews, advocates for clients, and ultimately moves clients into their homes. Housing Options provides follow up to ensure that individuals are comfortable living independently. In addition, it involves clients with advocacy on housing and mental illness.
