Children, Youth and Families

Goddard Riverside programs for children and youth guide young people through the joys and struggles of growing up. For the two-year-old entering day care to the 18-year-old applying to college, our goal is to create positive opportunities for youngsters that boost their confidence, spark their curiosity, improve school performance, promote good health, and instill accountability and respect for others.

Each year Goddard Riverside serves more than 3,000 children and youth through school-based, after-school, evening and weekend programs. The majority come from low-income families who live in the surrounding neighborhood. They face many challenges on the path to adulthood. Our programs provide safe, structured activities and the chance to interact with positive role models. We also offer information, encouragement and support to parents.

As a multi-service settlement house, we can give youngsters the continuity they need. Some children begin by attending one of our preschool programs and stay involved with us during elementary, middle, and high school. It is common for parents to have been in our programs as children, and we are often engaged with extended family networks. Families are encouraged to take advantage of other Goddard Riverside services, such as the Senior Center and Family Council, a neighborhood leader in educational advocacy.
