Book Sale
25th Annual New York Book Fair
Once again we had another successful year. The Book Fair was attended by more people then ever before and our sales were up.
Before we knew it the Steve Job’s biography had flown off the table. Our volunteers at the mystery and fiction tables did a great job of recommending best selling and unusual books to our shoppers. We had a huge selection of beautiful art and illustration books that by Sunday were almost all gone. The cookbook table is a hot spot each year and this year was no exception. There were books for history lovers and gardeners. And books on religion, economics, science, performing arts, crafts, and self-help. You could also find cherished classics. And the holiday table was in a flurry with shoppers selecting calendars, notecards, CDs, journals and other specialty items.
Members from our TOP program sold original hand-made notecards and provided shoppers with something sweet to buy at its table selling delicious cookies. The knitting club from the Phelps House sold hand-made scarves, hats, and other one-of-a-kind items.
This year we had three wonderful Children’s Authors join us at the Book Fair:
Julia Sarcone-Roach author of Subway Story and The Secret Plan, Bob Shea author of Dinosaur vs. the Library and I’m a Shark, and Selina Alko author of Every-day Dress-Up and I’m Your Peanut Butter Big Brother
At the end of the Fair, the final raffle tickets were drawn with lucky guests winning restaurant, theatre and spa packages and an iPad2!
This event would not be possible without the our army of over 500 volunteers, and the generosity of the publishing industry!
We look forward to seeing you next year at the 26th Annual Book Fair November 17-18, 2012!
